Identities: Jewish-American
In 2020, we unveiled our recurring short film program, The Souls Of Black Folk, dedicated to exploring the intimacy of everyday life for African-Americans, reducing an emphasis on overtly political statements. This year we are rebranding this into a collection of short films with the same goal, under the banner of “Identities”, and adding programs for Asian-American, Jewish-American, and a documentary section for African-American films.
Tickets:
Saturday, March 14 – 4:35pm – Room B222
Sunday, March 15 – 2:10pm – Room C105

A Bit Of Everything & Matzoh Balls Too

It came over on scraps of paper, in memories of those pursuing opportunity or fleeing persecution. Helping people adapt to new environments while allowing them to hold onto what they’d left behind, Matzo Ball Soup is the protagonist of a perpetually evolving tale of how we become who we are. Shot in verité style, stories unfold as if around a family’s hearth. Characters peeling away onion layers, complete one sentence as they interrupt another, a thought trailing off only to be picked up a few tangents later. Specific ingredients become amorphous as they’re added to the perpetually evolving pot of how we become who we are.
